WHY?

Over the last 42 years of my life, I have had my share of days that I’d classify as “one of the happiest days of my life”.  Included in that list would definitely be the birth of my children as well as my wedding day.

But I'd have to say that also on my list is the wedding celebration with our families.  You see, Z and I didn’t have a traditional wedding.  We got married in our home, just the two of us, along with the preacher and the photographer…that’s it, no more/no less.  Although, we did want to host a celebration--a few weeks later, to celebrate with our families.  So we did just that.

We got dressed up...

We decorated the house...

We cooked...

We ate...

We enjoyed celebrating our nuptials with our closest family members.

I asked the photographer to come back for the celebration in order to take family pictures and candids throughout the evening.

I was so excited when the CD containing the pics arrived in the mail several weeks later.  I began scrolling through them, one by one; taking note of all the smiling faces, remembering the love and laughter that emanated throughout our home that night.
And then I saw this…

My heart sank.  I felt sick.  I wanted to cry.
Did I really look like that?  Was I really “that large”?  Had I let myself, my health, get that far “south”?

I was so confident that night.  I thought that I had picked the perfect dress for the occasion.  I felt so pretty.  But looking at myself, in that picture, just negated all of those feel good memories.

THAT moment, THAT precise moment is when I made up my mind that I was sick and tired of being sick and tired.  From that moment on, I would take control.  I would take control of my health.  I would take control of my fitness.  I would take control of my weight.  I would take control of my life.

The following day I began a walk/run program.  It was similar to the Couch to 5k…where you run for “x” amount of time followed by walking for “x” amount of time; alternating back and forth until you’ve completed a 20-30 minute workout.  Each week the run time increased and the walking time decreased until I could finally run an entire 3 miles, non-stop.

My First 5K!

I also began watching what I ate, adopting the 80/20 rule; weeding out excess carbs and sweets along the way.  It began to work, my weight started decreasing, my clothes started getting looser and I started sleeping better…feeling better.  I worked my way up to a 10k, ran multiple races and obstacle courses; with feelings of happiness, accomplishment and success.

St.Patty's 5K

Muck Run
*By far the FUNNEST race I've ever ran!

Of course life happened over the next couple of years and my fitness/health journey was like a roller coaster…up and down every few months.  Although I have never fallen back to the point where I once was, I didn’t maintain a 100% commitment.  In 2016 I was introduced to a meal replacement shake called Shakeology along with a fitness program – 21 Day Fix; all offered through a company called Beachbody.

Life changing…That’s what it was.  That’s what it is!

Not only was the meal replacement “shake” delicious, it was healthy!  Within a week I experienced energy that I hadn’t had before.  Within a few months I could tell a difference in my hair, nails and skin tone.  I noticed that the bags that once lived under my eyes where now disappearing and not as noticeable.  Bloating decreased and regularity improved.  While drinking my daily shake, it was easier to maintain my 80/20 eating plan because my cravings for sugar and carbs were not front and center like before.

21-Day Fix, the at-home workout that I chose was fabulous.  It was just what I needed…fast paced, 30 minutes/day, targeting different body parts each day and incorporating weights, which I had not done in the past.  It included a detailed meal plan with portion control containers to ensure proper serving size.  I even talked Z into completing the first round with me.

I continued to feel as if something was missing.  I drank the shakes.  I did the workouts.  I even reincorporated running because I missed it.  But something was still “off”.
Motivation and accountability…I had no one to give me that kick in the butt that I needed (and still do) from time to time.  While searching for this community, that I knew was out there, I stumbled upon a group of ladies; a team, that not only supported each other but shared their journey, their stories, in hopes of helping someone else.  In hopes of motivating mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers to become healthier versions of themselves.
This was my answer.
This is what I longed for.  This was the missing link in my journey.

So in February, I decided that I would become a health and fitness coach with Beachbody.  I would become a member of team Faithfully Fit.  I would continue to drink the shakes.  I would continue to workout daily.  I would now begin to share my journey with family, friends and strangers alike in hopes to provide them the motivation and accountability that I once longed for.

Do I still struggle…yes.
Do I still have “off” days…yes.
Do I skip workouts…yes.
Do I eat cake…yes.

Do I feel the same way that I did 5 years ago while looking at my photo of what was one of the happiest days of my life…NO!

I am changed.  I am changed all because I decided to say YES.
To say YES to a healthier lifestyle.
To say YES to a fitness plan.
To say YES to a team of women that push me to be a better wife, mama…a better ME!

I have yet to cross my finish line, I doubt that I ever will as I feel like there is always room for improvement.  I like to think that I am a work in progress.  But step by step and goal by goal I continue toward my finish line.

Heather

Out...

Image result for out of the office image

As you may have noticed, I have been non existent in the blog world lately.

Over the last month I have made some pretty substantial life changes and in doing so this little corner of my life has taken a back seat.

Image result for 2 week notice meme

I made the decision to resign from my current 8-5 in order to take a new position with another company for better hours with increased benefits.  I will begin that new chapter of my life on Monday.

In addition, I have also made the decision to become a Health & Fitness Coach...you know-in my free time 😉.  This is my heart, my passion.  I love working on my own health and love it even more when I can help someone else in their journey to a healthier lifestyle.

In my focus to begin these new chapters in my life, I am having a hard time finding not only the time for blogging but also with content.  I feel that I am pouring my life out in social media with Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat and at the end of the day, there just isn't anything left.

So be sure that we are Friends on

Friday Favorites

I haven't shared a Friday Favorites in over a month so apologies for this lengthy post.
#sorrynotsorry

Today I'm linking up with

Erika and Shay have taken a little time off but if you are new to blogging and have never checked them out...do so NOW.  You will not be disappointed.

ONE

For the last year or so I have been dealing with increased sensitivity with my teeth.  So I finally broke down and decided to give Sensodyne a try.

Y'all...let me just say it has been a life changer.

At first it made my teeth feel electrified (like when you accidentally bite down on aluminum foil) while brushing; not painful but a tad bit uncomfortable.  I could tell a difference immediately after brushing but then my teeth would be become sensitive again after a few hours.  But since I have been using it for an extended period of time I have all day protection.

Sorry Crest but you have lost your spot on my vanity.

TWO

Spring has sprung in GA!

My favorite flower is the daffodil.

I just love seeing these beautiful yellow flowers sprinkled throughout the countryside.

THREE

Meet Juliette...

This precious girl was born on February 7th.  Babies, in any form~human or animal, are always a fave!

FOUR

Notes from my girl.

She left this for me on Tuesday night.

Interpretation:  For lunch today, #Wednesday, I would like my Nacho Lunchable.  I would like some of your healthy breakfast (aka Shakeology).

Please also take note of her illustrations!

Definitely a favorite and still making me smile.

FIVE

My newest piece of art.

Last night AB's school had an Art and Music Night.  The art teacher had taken a picture that each student had painted; had them matted and framed and displayed in the gym.  It was truly like walking into an art museum.  You had the option of purchasing your child's art for $25...which of course I did.

This picture doesn't do the painting justice...it is absolutely beautiful!

Now to decide where to hang it.

SIX

And last but certainly not least...this man right here ↑.

He is for sure a favorite!  I don't tell him that enough...love you babe!

Well that about wraps up this weeks addition of Friday Favorites.

Be sure to check back on Monday for some Motivational Monday.  I'll be starting a new workout program on Monday as well and can't wait to share that journey with you.

Peace out my peeps...have a great weekend!

Heather

Mexican Taco Lettuce Cups

Today's recipe is brought to you compliments of Autumn Calabrese and her FIXATE Cookbook.

Google Image
Autumn is the creator of 21 Day Fix; an easy to follow workout and meal plan utilizing 6, 30-minute workouts along with a meal plan utilizing colored, portion control containers.

Within this cookbook she shares healthy recipes, tips for meal prep and adds the equivalents of the containers if following the 21 Day Fix plan.

Anytime that I can substitute a healthier ingredient without losing taste-I'm all in!

Last night I tried the Mexican Taco Lettuce Cups, a great alternative to the taco.

Let me tell you...it was DELICIOUS!
A bit messy...but DELICIOUS!

Now I love a taco as much as the next person but I did not feel as if I was being robbed by this substitution.  Don't be afraid to give it a try.

Mexican Taco Lettuce Cups

Ingredients

Bibb Lettuce Leaves  *I used Romaine
Mexican Taco Meat (1lb.)
Shredded Carrots *I used 3 medium sized carrots
Black Beans (1 can)
Corn Kernels (1 can)
Salsa
Shredded Cheddar Cheese

Directions

After browning your ground meat of choice (I use venison.  I would also suggest ground turkey as opposed to ground beef/chuck); add your taco seasoning packet & water by following the directions found on the label.

Autumn provides a recipe for Homemade Taco Seasoning but I aint got time for that. #letsbehonest

In the meanwhile, drain your black beans and corn.

Once all of the seasoning has been incorporated into the ground meat, add the drained beans and corn.

Mix it up and heat through.

Now time to construct the 'taco'...

Lettuce leaves for your "shell"

Shredded carrots

Meat, bean and corn mixture topped with shredded cheese
Add a little salsa
and
VOILA!

Have plenty of napkins ready as the lettuce tends to break during eating but aside from that it was really good.  I'll definitely make them again.

IF you happen to be interested in the colored container equivalents, give me a shout out in the comments below and I'd be happy to provide them.

Linking up with Allie.  Be sure to check her out to see other yummy recipes.

Playing catch up...

It's been a minute so let's don't waste anymore time and get straight to it...
catching everyone up to date on what we've been up to lately.

SOFTBALL

AB has began softball practice.  She is learning to pitch and doing a great job so far.  I'm excited for the games to begin.

RUNNING

I have continued to get a run in 1-2 times a week as I am also doing BOD workouts as well.

I'm feeling good, sleeping better and it doesn't hurt that I am also seeing results on the scale.

FOOD

I am still LOVING the Spicy Southwest Chicken Salad from Chik-Fil-A.

Meal prepping on Sunday for me and Z makes for a much easier week.

And I can't have Shakeology without AB wanting her own...I'm certainly not going to deny her the added vitamins, nutrients and superfoods.

Well that is about all I have to report on today.  The last couple of weeks have consisted of just what you see here...softball, workouts and food.

Before I go, speaking of food--I'll be trying a new recipe on Wednesday and sharing on Thursday.  Check back on Thursday for a healthy alternative to tacos.

Until Next Time,
Heather
